An introduction about myself and where I come from as a teacher.
My name is Sandra Cook. I have earned a B.A. and an M.A. in Cultural Anthropology, and have fulfilled all of the requirements for a Ph.D. in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology including passing the comprehensive exams, one year of ethnographic research in the field and the write up of that research experience. Although I’ve been able to present my research in several academic venues, it has not yet passed my committee.
I’ve had the privilege of living and working in the Philippines for sixteen years where I gave birth to and raised my children. I've lived in many different levels of societies in the Philippines, with plumbing and without. It was truly a life changing experience to live among the cultural other, to speak their languages and understand their cultures, in both rural Muslim areas and in urban Catholic areas. While in the Philippines I had the privilege of lecturing in a Jesuit University, and of participating in research on poverty and gender, cell phone use among the youth, and finally identity construction among the consumer oriented youth in Metro Manila.
Since returning to the United States, I have been teaching the social sciences in liberal arts colleges and universities such as, Biola University, Crown College, Argosy University and Art Institutes International Minnesota.
